In Barentu, a town in south-western Eritrea, construction is underway on a Maternal and Child Health Center.
Twice a year, a team of specialists from Charité's obstetrics and paediatrics departments travels to Barentu to ensure the successful implementation of gradual yet crucial changes. These include: training local staff, building long-term cooperative partnerships with physicians and nurses, introducing new equipment, and improving infection control on wards. News of the new standards of care now available is spreading; this has helped build trust among the locals.
